Diversity Forum for ITEC employers: 30th November
The Diversity Forum is a critical component of the Equalitec Advancing
Women in ITEC project set up to promote and support women’s employability
in ITEC. The forum serves as a vehicle for reporting on the progress made
in achieving the strategic objectives of the project to sponsors, partners,
policy makers, parliamentarians, decision makers, industry and government.
The principle aim is to encourage transfer of best practice in terms of equal
opportunities policies and practices. This one day event provides a unique
platform that serves to introduce and promote the benefits of the Equalitec
Diversity Forum while creating a broad reaching impact of valuable discussions
and best practice case studies from industry.
The main focus shall provide a better understanding of the business case and
potential benefits while taking into consideration activities and outputs such
as
how the skills gap within the ITEC sector affects economic growth
how untapped skills in the market can harm competitiveness and productivity
the need to invest in skills that bring business benefits
the opportunities that diversity brings to the market
the expectations of corporate social responsibility Academics
Businesses, employers, government organisations, non government organisations,
Trade Unions and women’s groups are all invited to attend. For more information,
please visit www.equalitec.org.uk

New tool developed for IT professionals provides boost for women returners
Until now, there has been no commonly agreed classification of the jobs that exist in
ICT or of the skills required to perform them. This has made it difficult for women to
match their skills with jobs in the sector or determine whether further training was
required. Now a new tool has been developed to allow ICT professionals to benchmark
which skills they need for particular jobs or career paths. The system, called SFIA
(Skills For the Information Age), will prove particularly beneficial to women who have
taken a career break and may need to reassess their skills prior to re-entering
employment or training. The tool will be tested on a selection of women returners in
ITEC, through the Equalitec project for women returners in ITEC, in order to ensure
that it meets the needs of this group. For more information please refer to
www.sfia.org.uk.
